Luis Andrade - Video Game Developer

Core Competencies

  • I have experience using C# to develop games in Unity and software with WPF and ASP.NET. I also have game engine development experience using C++ and OpenGL.

  • For my art assets, I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 for concept and texture art, Maya 2012 and Blender for my 3D models, and MindTex for generating different texture maps.

  • My game design skills come from studying game mechanics in other games, designing games by myself or with others, and having regular game design discussions with my colleagues and friends.

About Me

As a game developer, I always strive to create gameplay experiences that are engaging and, most importantly, fun to play. I like the fact that I can make something that can bring someone joy, and it's the main reason i got into game development in the first place.

I got into the programming aspect of game development because I knew that if I wanted to make games (or at least my own games), I had to at least learn basic programming. However, as I got more into it, I realized there was so much more involved on the back end. Going in this direction gave me an opportunity to understand how games work at a very low level and gave me an appreciation for what it takes to make games appear as vibrant and exciting as they do now. Developing my own game engine really helped me understand the time it takes to really create a game. For some, it might have ruined the illusion for them. For me though, learning how games work just got me more excited about making games.

Programming-wise, I prefer to work on gameplay, physics, graphics, or making tools that can speed up the process. I like working on gameplay because I get to work on implementing complex game mechanics and systems that directly affect the enjoyment of the game. Physics are also fun because I get to work with 3D math and I like being able to work on something that can add realism (or craziness) to a game. If I have time, I usually like to mess around in Unity, making quick prototypes of game ideas that I have throughout my day-to-day life. Tools development is also something I enjoy working in because, even though I'm not directly working on a game, I contribute by creating software that makes the development process easier. This in turn leads to great games because designers, artists, and others have more time to focus on their contributions to the game and not on weird or complicated technical issues.

Game development is an exciting career for me, and I look forward to contributing my skills and dedication to a team that is dedicated to creating gameplay experiences that anyone can enjoy.
